Shelby - Mother Zettie Dowdle McClain ,age 102, of 1571 LongBranch Rd, Grover, NC peacefully transitioned on Saturday October 1, 2022 at the Citadel of Winston Salem.
Mother Zettie Dowdle McClain was born on May 16, 1920, in York, South Carolina. She departed this life on October 1, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Eula Goode Dowdle.
Mother Zettie answered the call of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and moved to her eternal home. She was educated in the Public School of York County, South Carolina.
Mother Zettie joined Shiloh A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age. She served on the Usher Board, as a Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Department and sung on the Senior Choir. She was a former member of the Community Sisters and a member of Electra Chapter #12 of the Eastern Star and Queen of Sheba Court #1 Heroines of Jerico. She retired from Kings Mountain Hospital (Atrium) after twenty years of service in the housekeeping department.
Mother Zettie is preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Herbert McClain, three daughters, Dorothy McClain, Lemonia M. Jones, and Barbara McClain; two sons, Charles H. McClain, William John McClain; one granddaughter, Teresa Rickenbacker; one grandson, Kenneth D. McClain, and one great-grandson, Raymona Abraham. She is the last sibling of her family. She had two brothers and six sisters of the Dowdle family.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: three daughters, Annie L. Rickenbacker of Charlotte, NC, Geanette Haynes (Carl) of Winston-Salem, NC, Virginia McClain of Gastonia, NC; three granddaughters, Priscilla A. Rickenbacker of Charlotte, NC, Pamela J. Abraham (Roosevelt) of Charlotte, NC, and Jennifer H. Harrell (John) of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandsons, Andrea Rickenbacker of Charlotte, NC, Barry Ross (Toni) of Gastonia, NC, Michael A. Woods (Lori) of Swannanoa, NC, Michael Rickenbacker of Charlotte, NC, and Brandon McClain (Tinisha) of Dayton, OH. She had twenty-one great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Ruby S. McClain, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
.Funeral arrangements will be held on Saturday October 8, 2022 at 3 :30 P M. at Shiloh AME Zion Church in Grover N.C.; the family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED
