Gaffney –
William H. Beatty was born in Dover, New Jersey on July 15,1945. He actually hated being called William from a young age as his schoolmates would shorten his name to “Willy”. That being said, he has always been known to family and friends as “Bill”.
Bill had moved to California and was drafted into the Army in October of 1965 and was honorably discharged as
a Corporal, in October of 1967 after serving in the Vietnam War. During his service he was awarded the following: National Defense Service Medal, Marksman Badge (rifle M-14), Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and Two Overseas Service Bars.
Bill married Tara’s mom when she was a little girl. Bill had two children from his previous marriage,Shannen and William. Tara had two siblings, Lisa and Marc…. So, two people with kids fell in love and made a family of 7. Tara’s mother abandoned her at the tender age of 15 and left Bill devastated by divorce at the same time. Bill had no reason to care or raise Tara legally but did so purely out of love. He walked her down the aisle when she married and was a constant presence in her life and the lives of both her children, John (Anastasia) and Jennifer (Devan) Mahovlich-Alexander whom affectionately called him “Pappy”.
In Bill’s professional life he was a custom cabinet maker. In his downtime
Bill enjoyed fishing, bowling, woodworking, playing with his grandchildren and his Sunday dinners with family. He was a very loyal, loving, and giving of himself, sometimes to his detriment. Before his passing, he rededicated himself to the Lord.
He is survived by several siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins, daughters, Tara(Joseph) Camp, Shannen (Emmett) Underwood, Son, Williams Beatty, and many grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his father, Harry E. Beatty, mother, Betty A. Meyers, a sister Margaret Holzbauer (Beatty), a daughter, Noel Beatty, and a stepson, Marc Thompson.
