Kings Mountain: Mr. Octravious “Ockie” Bess unexpectedly transitioned on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at home in Kings Mountain, NC. He was born on October 11, 1990, in Shelby, NC.
Ockie was a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and attended the Life Enrichment Center of Kings Mountain. He was a special young man who exuded love and joy to everyone he met.
Ockie had a passion for many things, but those closest to him knew he was always talking or writing about Steve Harvey, singing Stevie Wonder songs, and looking at the Shelby Shopper. He enjoyed learning new words, playing basketball, and going for walks with his siblings’ dogs, Kemba, Lexie, and Bella.
Ockie frequently requested to watch movies, with those starring Chris Tucker and Ice Cube being his favorites. He knew every word to films like “Friday,” “Money Talks,” and “Rush Hour.”
Ockie was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ethel Bess; his uncle, Jerry Bess; and his two aunts, Delilah Bess and Dorothy Bess.
Ockie leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, his mother, Charlotte Bess of home; his sisters, Heather Hill and Hannah Bess of home; and his brother, Kendrick (Rachael) McDowell of Gastonia. Ockie also leaves behind a host of loved ones and friends.
The funeral for Ockie will take place at Vestibule A.M.E. Zion Church in Kings Mountain, NC, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, with Quiet Hour starting at 2:30 PM and the funeral service beginning at 3:00 PM.
Ockie will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
