Shelby: Norman Lee Dawkins, Sr. was born on January 31, 1945 to the late Walter and Hattie Brooks Dawkins in Shelby, North Carolina. Norman received his formal education with Cleveland County School System. He served in the United States Army. Norman was employed by Jefferson Smurfit Corporation as a Dye Maker for 40 + years and seal and wire for 5 years. He was married to Shirley McCree. Norman enjoyed fishing, coaching, bowling, playing tennis, and exercising. He also loved watching the NC States Wolfpack and the Washington Redskin play. Norman departed this life on January 2, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Hattie Brooks Dawkins, one son, Monty Noel Petty; brothers, Walter Ray Dawkins, James Edward Dawkins; and three sisters, Margaret Steepleton, Nancy Mintz, Elizabeth Miller. He is survived by his children, Leslie M. Dawkins of Kings Mountain, NC, Norman Dawkins, Jr. Of the home, Brian Dawkins (Brandi) of Harrisburg, NC, Madeline McCluney (Ricky) of Shelby, NC, Lopez Pettis (Cecilia) of Greensboro, NC; siblings, Mitchell Dawkins (Shirley) of Shelby, NC, Eloise Norris (John) of Shelby, NC; special cousins, Sheila Brooks, and Crystal “Gucci” Brooks; and a host of other relatives and friends
The family will ONLY be receiving friends on Sun. January 5, Thurs. January 9 and Fri. January 10 from 2pm to 6pm.
Funeral: Monday, January 13, 2025 at 3pm at Macedonia Baptist Church ( Kingstown); the family will receive friends 30 mins prior to the service.
Burial: Salisbury National Cemetery
