Naomi (McDowell) Beedles

Gaffney- beautiful, extremely creative and pleasant personality in the life of Mrs. Naomi McDowell Beedles of 149 McDowell Rd, Gaffney, South Carolina ended Monday morning December 21,2020 at 1:00 am at the home when she answered the Master’s call to eternal rest.

Daughter of the late Hayles McDowell and the late Ozelia McDowell, she was born January 16,1926 in Cherokee County, SC. She joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Carl Benny Beedles in Cleveland, Ohio in 1954 and to this blessed union, one daughter and two sons were born. Her husband and her son Kenneth Nathaniel Beedles Sr. preceded her in death.

She converted at an early age and joined Mikes Creek Baptist Church under the pastoral ship of Rev. R.B. Sullivan. She served well until leaving Gaffney to make Cleveland, Ohio her home. While in Cleveland, she was a member of Israelite Baptist Church, a Cub Scout Den mother and active in the PTA. She attended Cuyahoga Community College and received numerous certifications in Psychology, Pharmacology I and II, and Critical Care. She worked for 24 ½ years at Cleveland State Hospital as a LPN nurse and alternate supervisor where she retired in August 1975. She returned to Gaffney in 1976 and worked for the Department of Social Services for 13 years before she finally retired I 1988. She rejoined membership at Mikes Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Nurses Guild, youth advisor and was selected Mother of the Year in 2000.

As a mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, she was unsurpassed. She was an inspiration of faith, strength, remarkable wisdom, and love to her family and friends. Our mother, sister, and friend will be missed.

As the evening shadow covers this compassionate life, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Eloise Knuckles of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Carron Dunton of Gaffney, South Carolina; one son, Jeffrey Beedles of Gaffney, South Carolina, one brother, Bobby McDowell of Cleveland, Ohio, two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Fannie McDowell of Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Daisy McDowell of Atlanta, Georgia, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Mamie McDowell and Ms. Sarah McDowell, six brothers, Mr. Hayles McDowell Jr., Mr. Joe McDowell, Mr. Paul McDowell, Mr. George McDowell Sr., Mr. Ed McDowell, and Dr. Hershel McDowell.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, December 26,2020 at Mikes Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Courtney Mills officiating. The body will lie-in-state at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be limited seating, face mask, gloves and temperature checks are required before entering the sanctuary.
