Martha Jeanette London Barrow
Martha Jeanette London Barrow affectionately known by some as “Jennie” to others as “Jen” and to some as “Martha” passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, August 6, 2018 surrounded by her family at her home. She was born on November 17, 1938 to the late James and Eloise Ramseur London. Her entire life she loved homemaking and providing hospitality to her family. ‘Jennie’ was a very thorough and particular lady concerning things that represented her, especially her home, and her appearance. During holidays, Sundays, summer cook-outs and even at random times, you could always look forward to a feast fit for Jesus. It was never a surprise to have fresh turnips, greens, ocra, corn, cauliflower, squash, peas, etc. The freezer at 1638 Eaves Road was stocked-full of fresh vegetables and yeast rolls year round. ‘Martha’ was educated at Cleveland School and obtained an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from CTCC. She was a member of Ryburn Presbyterian Church (formerly Wilson Street Presbyterian) where she served faithfully as a Ruling Elder for several years until failing health made it necessary for her to relocate to Greensboro, NC to be cared for by daughters Cheryl and Kaye. Besides her parents, several aunts, and first cousins, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Gene Barrow, Jr, a granddaughter Lauren Grace Ziglar, two brothers James E. and Richard E. “Showboat” London. She leaves four devoted children to cherish her memory. The Reverend Kaye Barrow-Ziglar(Rod), Cheryl Barrow-Russell(Jeff)Greensboro, NC, Harold Gene “Tripp” Barrow, III and John Phillip Barrow (Sabrina) Shelby, NC. Eight grandchildren all of whom affectionately called her “Grammy” ,Tay, JR, Josh, Jena, Whitney, Garrett, Iaan, and Jason. Ten great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Kyla, Niya, Adrianna, CJ, Naveah, Nadia, Naomi, Elijah and Ziegky. Also to cherish her memory is a loving brother, John Clifton London, Parsippany, New Jersey, and her dear and life-time friend, Bessie Thompson of Shelby.
