Marian Nancy Lula (Byers) Powell

Gaffney – Marian Nancy Lula Byers Powell age 93 of 1034 N. Logan Street Gaffney, transitioned from this life on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Cherokee Medical Center. Mrs. Marian Nancy Lula Byers Powell, Matriarch of her family and affectionately called “Nanny” answered God’s Call on February 5, 2021 at Cherokee Memorial Hospital. God came and took her by his hand and said, “Marian, it’s time to go home. You have fought your last battle.”

She was the widow of Isaac N. Powell, II and daughter of the late Ewell Sterling Byers and the late Allie Eugenia Turner Byers. Born in Cherokee County on December 16, 1927.

She graduated from Granard High School in 1947, attended South Carolina State College in Orangeburg SC and Benedict College in Columbia, SC.

She joined in Holy Matrimony to the Late Isaac N. Powell, II, June 19, 1949. To that union three children, Jacquelyn, the late Isaac E. Powell, III (Newt) and Beverly.

She joined Limestone Baptist Church at an early age. Marian as an adult Loved her Church, where she was a former member of the Senior Missionary, Senior Choir, Usher Board, Directress of the Celestial Choir. . She was presently serving as clerk (50 years), Deaconess Board and Mother of the Church.

Mrs. Powell was a Professional Seamtress, she retired from Oxford’s Industries after 15 years, she has sewn for Elementary Schools, Operetta plays, choirs, church choirs, people and family members from Cherokee and Spartanburg Counties as well as North Carolina. She was a former secretary to The Thickety Mtn. Assoc. A founding member of The Ladies Progressive, serving in several capacities and presently was the chaplain.

Left to cherish loving memories two daughters, Mrs. Jacquelyn P. Graham of Blacksburg SC and Miss Beverly C. Powell of the home. Five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and four cousins.

She was preceded in death her parents, husband, son, three brothers, Willie, Robert and James.

 Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Limestone Cemetery Gaffney SC.
