John Rìcker

John Moore Ricker was called from labor to rest on January 9, 2022. John was the first of four children born to the late Bertha Ricker on November 1, 1935 in Boston, Massachusetts.

John grew up in Boston and attended the Boston Public Schools. He graduated from Boston Trade High School and later received a degree from Bay State Community College, Wellesley, MA, in Business Administration. He joined Peoples Baptist Church in Boston at an early age and was very active in Sunday School, Choir, and BYU.

 John enlisted in the US Army at age 18 and served for 8 years and then decided he wanted to join the US Air Force where he served for 9 years. He was truly a dedicated man who loved his country. After his service time he spent 18 years as Equal Opportunity Manager for the Federal Government.

He married Verna Webber Patterson on December 27, 1973 in Boston and they moved to Shelby, NC in February 2006 where he joined Washington Missionary Baptist Church.

He is a Past Master of William G. Butler Lodge #12, Prince Hall Masons, Boston, Massachusetts and Past Worthy Grand Patron of Prince Hall Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Jurisdiction of Massachusetts, Inc. John was involved in several community activities. He worked with the Jail Ministry for youth with the NAACP. John was very active; he did not like sitting around with nothing to do. He enjoyed bowling every Tuesday until he became ill.

We will miss John. He leaves to mourn his wife Verna Ricker, four children Jason, Juanita, Tony and John, three step children Sandra, Rene, and Reginald and many friends and relatives.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday,  January 26, 2022 at Washington Baptist Church Cemetery.
