Dr. Roger Mason

Shelby - Dr. Roger Mason, age 71, transitioned from this  life on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at  Atrium Health Charlotte, North Carolina.  He was born on November 24, 1949  to  George and Terether  Mason in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Dr. Roger Mason received his formal education at Reid High School in Belmont, North Carolina.  He furthered his education  at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, North Carolina. 

Rev. Dr. Roger Mason accepted Christ as his  Savior at an early age at Friendly Hill Baptist Church, Lake Wylie, South Carolina where he served in many capacities.

Rev. Dr. Roger Mason was united in holy matrimony with Lillian Patterson on January 15, 1972 in York, SC and to this union they were blessed with three children.  

Rev. Dr. Roger Mason enlisted into the United States Army on November 1969 and was honorably discharged on September 1971.  He was the pastor of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 25 years.

In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing and hanging out with  his wife.  He was  a member of NC Sheriffs  Association, President/Founder of the Gospel Group Wisdom, and a Professor at the Grace Providence Bible College.

He was preceded in death by his father and  mother; George and Terether Mason, sister; Georgia McNeil, and brother; Pastor Charlie Mason.

He leaves to cherish fond memories: his wife Lillian Mason, sons; Roger A. Mason, George A. Mason (Tra) daughter, Minister Rozell Rodgers (John), grandchildren; Rogers, Mercedes, Jaramis, Gabriella, Gian, John Rodgers II, Jaivon Rodgers, Nykosha Rodgers, Isaiah Beard, Rodney Friday, Siblings: Rev. Marrise Phillips, Rev. Michelle  Newman (Ernest), brother; Irvin Mason, sister-in-law; Ida Patterson and Mamie Patterson, Pastor Sandra Mason, brother-in-law; Deacon James McNeil, a host of  nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Public Viewing will only take place on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church beginning at 12pm

Funeral: Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2pm at New. Mt. Zion Baptist Church. ( 154 Round Tree Rd Gaffney, SC) The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
