Thomas Brown Obituary

Thomas Decala Brown was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina in March 24, 1943 to the late Andrew and Geneva Burris Brown.  He transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Atrium Health Heart and Vascular Institute, Charlotte, North Carolina.

 

In addition to the parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Toni Ferel Brown; his sister, Erma Brown McCullough; brother, Leonard L. Brown and step-brother, Carlee Jenkins, Jr.

 

Thomas graduated from Compact High School the Class of 62 and spent his working career at Kerns Trucking Company.  He retired with 40 plus years of service and with recognition for “1 million miles of safe driving.”

 

He accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  Thomas will be remembered for his spirituality, his quiet and his humble spirit.  His love for Jesus, his family and NASCAR.  After his marriage to Brenda Jackson, his high school sweetheart, in 1963, he became a faithful, dependable and supportive member of Vestibule A.M.E. Zion Church where he was active in the following areas:  Vice-Chairperson of the Trustee Board, Male Choir, Senior Choir, Life Matrons, Young-At-Heart Senior Group, Senior Sunday School, Noon Day Bible Study, Lay Council and Class Leader #3.  On the Lincolnton District, he served on the Usher Board, the Men’s Boosters Ministry and District Lay Council.

 

Thomas leaves to cherish his fondest memories, Brenda Jackson Brown, his wife of 56 years; his step-mother, Jacqueline Jenkins Brown of Kings Mountain, NC; brothers, Andrew (Alice) Brown of Mocksville, NC; Alfred Wendell (Doris) Brown of Grover, NC; Ernest (Johnnie Mae) Lindell, Jr. of Grover, NC was raised in the home as a son. Step-sister, Geraldine J. Dye of Kings Mountain, NC; step-brothers, Charles (Shelia) Jenkins; Sherman (Deborah) Jenkins of Kings Mountain, NC;                step-sister-in-law, Eloise Jenkins of Lake City, FL.  Sister-in-laws, JoAnne Mack, Jatana Jackson, Dana Jackson and Ava Smith.  Brother-in-laws, Dwain (Tammie) Jackson, John Richard Jackson and Sahara (Francis) Jackson.  A special granddaughter, Si´Mone Jackson; grandsons, John Tony (Tee), Corry, Stetson and Dakota Brown.  Godsons, Kevin (Lorinnsa) Kee, Weldon Hunter; goddaughter, Danielle Hunter.  Mrs. Dorothy S. Moore of Kings Mountain, NC , beloved Christ like mother who always gave Godly advice with her wisdom; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
