Hickory - Philip Gilliam affectionately known as “Phil Cat” to his family and friends, age 67, was born on November 14, 1951 in Catawba County. He passed away on April 4, 2019 in Chapel Hill, NC. He was loved by everyone, he never met a stranger. He was always the life of the party, he loved spending quality time with his family and friends. He is apart of the graduating class of 1971 from Hickory High School. He was a lover of basketball and tennis. It’s been said by many that he was a bad man on the basketball court. He worked at Carolina Sovets for many years. To know Phil Cat was to love him!
Proceeded in death by his mother, Dorothy “Dot” Gilliam, sister Linda Abernathy McKnight, 3 brothers Danny Wilson, Richard Rhinehart, Donald “Bozo” Rhinehart.
He leaves to cherish loving memories his loving children, Chris Banks, Asante (Dean) Wimbush, Shakima (Gary) Barber, Lavar Gilliam, Latisha Walker, Cheri Walker; his wife, Sharon Gilliam; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 2 nieces Bridgette McKnight and Dawn McKnight. Special cousin Janice Carlton. Special families Fredia Liles Carter, Fred “Junior” Liles, Frazier L Liles and the Harold Family and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family is meeting at the home of his daughter, 514 5th Ave SE Hickory NC
Funeral Services will be held Saturday April 13, 2019 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church( 416 2nd Ave. SE Hickory, NC 28602)at 1:30 p.m.
Visitation 1pm-1:30pm
Burial: Southside Cemetery.
