Marguerite Myrtle (Byars) Montgomery

Gaffney - Mrs. Marguerite Myrtle Byars Montgomery age 97  of 123 Buckson Street Gaffney, SC,was born in Cherokee County on May 10, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Roy Byars and the late Minnie Mae Petty Byars. She was united in marriage to the late A. C. Montgomery on August 26, 1939.

At an early age, she received the Lord and joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Gaffney. Later in her spiritual walk and under the leading of the Lord, she united with the Bethel Baptist Church in Gaffney, SC. She was a steadfast and loyal member of the Bethel Baptist Church for over 60 years where she mostly recently served as Mother of the Church. She was a former member of the Gospel Choir, Jubilee Choir, and she served as a member of the Vinnie Byars Circle. She was a domestic engineer for the Lipscomb Family Home and retired after 55 years of faithful service. She was a faithful member of The Park Street Sympathy Club. She was a friend to everyone she encountered and loved her family and friends dearly.

On December 15, 2018, her earthly life came to a close at her residence and she transitioned to her heavenly home.

Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: two sons, Thomas Montgomery and Deacon Charles A. Montgomery Sr. both of Gaffney, SC, four daughters, Minnie M. Fair (Aaron) of Gaffney, SC, Anne M. Ruffin (John) of Norwalk, Conn., Patricia Clemons, and Sarah Jenell Thompson (Eugene) of Gaffney, SC., one daughter-in-law, Evelina S. Montgomery of North Augusta, SC. Five grandchildren raised in the home as her daughters: Teressa Fair, Margaret Glenn (Larry), Tara Montgomery, Regina Williams (Jay), and Renika Fair all of Gaffney, SC. 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 9 great great-grandchildren. Adopted daughters and sons are as follows: Cora H. Corry (Thomas) of Upper Marlboro, MD., Ollie Hollis, Deacon Michael Hemphill (Minister Jennifer), Deacon Wilbert Littlejohn (Earlene), Evelyn Johnson (Derrick), Peggy Littlejohn, Kevin Gaffney (Janice), Carol Branch all of Gaffney, SC. and Willie Woods (Shanda) of Greensboro, NC., a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 22, 2018 at The Ebenezer Baptist Church. The body will lie-in-state at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.
