Leroy Spurgeon Young

King Mountain - Leroy Spurgeon Young was born September 3, 1932 in Polk County to the late Thomas Amos Young and Mattie Mae Fowler-Young and entered eternal rest on January 11, 2019 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandmother, Mamie Fowler-Lynch, his siblings; Ethel Stephens, Janice Young, Mary Ann Turner, Lucy Mae Young, Earl Young, JD Hines, Jerry Allen Young.

At an early age, he attended Young’s Chapel, the family church, in Mooresboro, NC. There his foundation in Christ began. After which he served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorable discharge.

He retired from the City of Gastonia after 30 years of service. He was known for his many stories about laying the pipeline in Gastonia.

He joined and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church at the age of 35.  He served as Janitor, Chairman of the Trustee Board, Senior Choir and Deacon Board.

Leroy enjoyed music, especially quartet.  He shared his love of music with his children who then instilled into their children creating a legacy that will live throughout future generations. Leroy loved his family.  He was known for going the extra mile to make sure that all was well.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Min. Mary Ann Young. His sons; Bruce Young (Mary Ann) and Roy Young both of Kings Mountain, NC. His daughters; Prunella Young, Brenda Elliott (George) and Patricia Young all of Kings Mountain, NC.  He also leaves fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.

. Funeral service will be held on Thursday January 17, 2019 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Kings Mountain NC, at 1:30 P.M. Family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service . Burial will be in Church cemetery.
