Laura Frances Jones Smith left us on Monday, April 22nd to be with the Lord. Laura was born in Salisbury, North Carolina on July 25, 1947.
She was a honor student at Monroe Street School and Price High School. After marriage and moving to Charlotte, she graduated from Business School and later was hired by Southern Bell which later became AT&T where she retired. In Salisbury, she was a member of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church. After moving to Shelby, she became a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church. She was involved in several church organizations. She loved working in the kitchen and helping out in any areas. When her mother, Julia Mae Jones became ill, Laura did her best to help care for her. She was an excellent caregiver. Laura was suffering from Breast Cancer at that time but her love for her mother and providing the best care for her never wavered.
Laura is survived by her children, Michael and Marsha Smith, one grandson Joseph Gregory Smith whom she adored and loved, a step-son; Marco Cross (Sherry), two step-grandchildren; Brianna and Malcolm Cross, two sisters; Nancy Jones Douglas, Peggie Jones Dargan both of Greensboro, North Carolina, her best friends; Carolyn and Mildred of Florida, Paulette, Gloria Faye of Salisbury, North Carolina, Jackie Barnes of Shelby, North Carolina, Tamie Smith of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Charlotte of Atlanta, Georgia, Mildred of Mooresville, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Julia Mae Jones and her brother-in-law, Curtis E. Douglas. Laura will be greatly missed.
Laura had a bubbly personality and loved to talk to everyone when she could. Now that the Lord has decided that he needed her more and for her to not suffer any longer. She can now rest in heaven pain free and at peace.
