James Daniel Davis, Sr.

Gaffney - James Daniel Davis, age 76, of 810 Anthony Street, Gaffney, SC, affectionately known as JD, passed away on October Twenty-Six, 2019

James was born May 24, 1943 to late Bishop E. Davis and the late Rena Brooken Davis, in Sylvester, Georgia.

At an early age his family moved to Sanford, Florida where he graduated from Crooms High School Class of 1961.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Ulysses and Calvin Davis and a sister, Nadine Davis Parks.

James begin his Christian life at early age he joined Allen Chapel AME Church in Sanford, Florida. After completing high school he relocated to Brooklyn, New York.

James continued his Christian journey and joined St. John’s AME Church in Brooklyn, New York and was an active member of several organizations at the church.

Jame retired from the United Postal Service System, after 25 years of faithful service. While working there he met his soulmate, Bessie Linder. They were married on September 24, 1983. They were happily married for 36 years.

James was a person of many interests, he was a writer and wrote several books and plays, one of his plays was off-off Broadway and he was an avid reader. He was a curator of antiques and He also had a great love for trains and he spent many hours perfecting his own model trains and rails, which continues to run today. It is such a magnificent work of perfection.

James and his wife, Bessie relocated to South Carolina in 1993.

James joined First AME Church in 1993 where he was a very active member. He served as chair of the Steward Board, Church Treasurer and a member of the Men Methodist Club.

He was currently an active of member of Bunton CME Church.

He survived by his loving wife, Bessie L. Davis,

two sons, James Daniel Davis, Jr , Jacksonville, NC and Glen Davis ( Angelique ) New York City.

One granddaughter,PO3 U.S. Navy, Amber Davis, Norfolk, Virginia, two grandsons, Max and Lex Davis both of New York City,

Two sisters, Inez Jenkins ( John ), Huntington, Long Island, New York and Debra Davis ( Steve ) Brooklyn, New York, a daughter-in-law, Marcia Davis, Jacksonville, NC., a host of nephews and cousins.

Special friend, Carolyn S. Wilson, Spartanburg, SC

Funeral service will be Held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, October 30,2019 at The Bunton CME Church, 500 Wofford Street, Spartanburg, SC., with The Rev. Cassandra Keys officiating. A one-hour visitation prior to the service. The body will lie-in-state at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
