James R. Benson, Jr.

Cherryville - James Benson, age 85, of 306 Doc Wehunt Road, peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at his residence. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday August 18, 2019, at Word of Faith full Gospel Church  1417 Stoney Point Road Shelby N.C. at 4 p.m. Visitation 3:30 - 4 p.m. Burial Cherryville City Cemetery .

THE OBITUARY

James Robert Benson, Jr. was born in Cherryville, North Carolina, on May 20, 1934, to the late James Robert Benson, Sr. and Minnie Alberta Barbour Benson.

On Wednesday, August 14, 2019, James slept away peacefully in the comfort of his home.  James to some, “Baba” to others, attended John Chavis High School eleven years and came out to help his dad take care of the farm.  In 1955, he met a little country girl named Marjorie Smith and fell in love then  married her.  To this union God blessed them with four children; two sons and two daughters, who are grown adults now.  James was a member at Rudisill Chapel AME Zion Church for more than 45 years and served as an Usher, Deacon, Steward, and other.  He also worked at Doran Mills for many years.

In addition to his parents, his sisters;  Ailene Benson Montgomery,  Pauline Benson Garland, Hazel Benson, and McKinney Howell preceded him in death.

James leaves precious memories in the heart of his lovely wife of sixty four years, Marjorie S. Benson; sons: Robert (Rita) Benson and Alvin (Tela) Benson of Cherryville, N.C., daughters: Margie (Byron) Littlejohn and Sybil (Edward) Littlejohn of Cherryville, N.C.; one brother: Willie Benson of Cherryville, N.C.; ten grandchildren,  grandsons: Eric, Al, Brad (Amber), Chad, Christopher Benson, and Anquavius Littlejohn; granddaughters:  Ashley (Sheridan) Green, Alexis and Jaquayla  Littlejohn, and India Benson; five great-grandchildren;  great-granddaughters: Alasia, Tatianna, and   Bella Benson; great-grandsons: Kendrick Cunningham and Jackson Carter Green.  He also had a host of nieces and nephew, with one special niece, Raqwanda Williams, and other relatives and friends.
