The Life and Legacy of Deacon John Wayne Smith Sr. A beautiful life we loved came to a close on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. John was the son of the late Whitworth Smith and the late Ola Mae Roberts Smith. John was an active member of Mikes Creek Baptist Church where he was truly a servant for the Lord. He served on the Deacon Board, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday school, a Sunday school teacher, an Usher, president of the Mixed Choir, a member of the All Male Choir and Health Ministry. He was also a member of the Voices of Praise, Carolina All Male Choir, and Cause for Christ. After many years of employment, John retired from Nestle in Gaffney, South Carolina. He was currently employed with Clarus as a Supervisor of Transportation. After graduating from Truck Driving school with a certificate, he acquired his CDL License. In addition to his parents; John was preceded in death by a brother; Thomas Smith, three sisters; Leola Manning, Martha Dawkins, and Reverend Nettie McCluney Camp. Left to cherish his memories: his wife of 47 years, Shirley M. Allen Smith, sons; John W. Smith, Jr. (Shelly) of Nampa, Idaho, Adam W. Smith (Sadony), daughters; Eria A. Smith of Charleston, South Carolina, Iris S. Hopper (Gary) of Duncan, South Carolina, sisters; Reverend Modestine Manning (James), Minister Frances Wilkie, brothers; Horace Smith (Priscilla), Eddie Smith (Wanda), Willie Ellis, aunts; Opie Tate, Dot Roberts, uncle; Bobbie Smith, one grandson raised as a son; Jalyn M. Smith, grandchildren; Jessica Heil, Gara Hopper, Gambria Hopper, Gianna Hopper, Autumn Davis, Jada Davis, Cidney Davis, Maddison Davis, Bridasia Wood, Alicia Smith, Allure, Smith, Armani Smith, 2 great-grandchildren; Realus M. Chandler, Sage Zion Moorman, 3 nieces reared in the home as daughters; Zipporiah Allen of Columbia, South Carolina, Marilyn S. Hill of Alabama, N’dia Allen of Columbia, South Carolina and a host of other relatives, family, and friends.
Funeral Service: Monday August 13, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Mikes Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 30 mins prior to the service.
