Nancy Watkins Obituary

Gaffney - Nancy Ann Leach Watkins answered the Master’s call on Thursday, evening, Nov. 18, 2021, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice.

Daughter of the late Herbert Leach Sr. and the late Bennie Mae Poole Leach, she was born on March 11, 1945, in Cherokee County, South Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Sherman Watkins Jr; three beloved sisters Mammie Chappell, Shirley Mickles, and Dorothy Dover; and a loving brother Herbert Leach Jr., a sister-in-law, Annette King, two brothers-in-law, John Mickles and Johnny Henderson

A 1962 Granard High School Graduate, Mrs. Nancy had a servant’s heart and lived by 1 Peter 4:10: “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” Mrs. Nancy was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church for many of her early years. She later returned to her home, Concord Baptist Church. A servant in church, she served over the kitchen, on the Usher Board, and as an Assistant in the Children’s Church. She loved attending Church and the Senior Citizens Center of Cherokee County.  Throughout her life she was employed by several companies including Magnolia Finishing Plant, West Jr. High (Granard Middle School), and FootStar. She was an avid patron at her favorite restaurant- Pete’s of Gaffney. She enjoyed sending birthday cards to all of her family and friends. She would spend hour picking out the perfect card and gift.  She was a member of The Red Hat Society and very artistic. In her earlier years, she would cater meals including the Leach Family Reunion, decorate cakes, create flower arrangements, and participate in home decorating. Later in life, she would make all types of handmade crafts for her family and friends including holiday items such as Easters Baskets and Christmas Stockings.  She loved shopping for bargains, [br1] finding huge, discounted sale items, and attending yard sales for her crafting materials; the lady could spot a good deal a mile away. She was an avid Game Show watcher. Her favorite being “The Price is Right”. She also was an intensive sports fan of football, baseball, and basketball; but above all, loved the Atlanta Braves.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Tanya Roxann Roberts (Berry) of Conway, South Carolina, a son Mr. Edward Terrell Watkins (Brandi), one granddaughter, Mrs. Shermeka Bonham (Lothair), and four grandsons, Mr. Marcus Thompson, Mr. LaBarron Roberts (Johanna) of Tuscan, California, Mr. Berry Roberts Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Mr. Justin Roberts of Houston, Texas. One sister, Mrs. Minnie Henderson of Bridgeport, Connecticut and three brothers Trustee Choice Leach (Minnie) and Deacon Jackie Leach (Vera) of Gaffney, South Carolina, and Mr. Joe Leach (Dorothy) of Wellford, South Carolina; two brothers-in-law Charles Dover of Gaffney, South Carolina and Bobby Chappell of Norwalk CT.  7 great-grands and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 24,2021 at Concord Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Bridges officiating.
