Rakeem was my Work Study student in Campus Life and was the most loving, generous and upstanding young man. His passing has left a hole in this campus community that cannot be filled. He wove his passion and love for life into our lives and we will never forget him and the impact he made on all of Brevard College. He sat in my office many days and we spoke about the Lord. I know he is singing and dancing there now, and knowing he will be there when I get there makes it a much sweeter place. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of grief and unimaginable pain.

I am so very sorry for the loss of this precious life. Please accept my sincere condolences. I hope the following scriptures give family and friends a measure of comfort. God has promised that one day all sicknesses will be done away with - Isaiah 33:24. Through His Son, Jesus, we have the hope of seeing our dead loved ones again by way of the resurrection - John 5:28,29. You can find more comforting thoughts from God's Word at JW. org.

My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting your son on two separate occasions at Brevard College. They were brief encounters but enough to make an impact. He was so full of humor and just a delight to meet. He was the first student we met and we will always remember his kindness.

Sweezy, a.k.a. "Dimples," was a very special young man at Brevard College. he was freshman of the year (last year), a Resident Assistant, a Student Ambassador, a standout in the Theatre Department, and a close friend of all who knew him (which meant virtually everyone on campus). His passing has left a deep hole in our hearts. We miss his smile, his hugs, his energy, his joyful disposition, and, sometimes, even his singing. We will not forget you, Sweezy, as our campus and our world are much better places for your presence. God rest your soul and bless your family, friends, classmates, faculty, staff, and all with whom your life has touched.

I work at Brevard College and had the pleasure of knowing and working with “Sweezy”. He was one of the kindest most respectful young men that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. He was a wonderful ambassador for Brevard College and he will be missed by his BC family. I am so sorry for your loss and hope fond memories of Rakeem will bring you comfort.

I have known Rakeem for quite sometime now. I was a teacher at Elizabeth, but more importantly my twin daughters, Abigail and Chloe Thomas, graduated with Rakeem. Chloe and Rakeem were together in chorus from middle school through high school, in Sports Medicine, and Chloe trained him in football. She loved Rakeem very much. In all of that time, I grew close to Rakeem and watched him grow from a remarkable child into a remarkable man. He brought so much joy into any life he touched and his joy was contagious. I am blessed to have known him and can't waIt to see him again one day. My deepest condolences to Rakeem's family and many friends. We will always love him and remember the impact he made on Shelby.
