Lathaniel Grier

KINGS MOUNTAIN-Lathaniel Grier, "Sleepy", age 72, of 161 Ebenezer Road, Kings Mountain, passed away on May 11, 2016, at Testa Family Hospice House, Kings Mountain.

The family will be receiving friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral service at the church, and other times, at the home

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Kings Mtn.

Burial will take place at Mountain Rest Cemetery

 On May 11th, early that morning, GOD called his son, Mr. Lathaniel “Sleepy” Grier name to come out of pain and into his loving arms, after a 23 year battle with cancer.Mr. Lathaniel “Sleepy” Grier was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and would do anything for anyone. He also enjoyed playing golf, going on vacation, grilling out with family and being a part time photographer.                                                                                                    

He was born on May 6, 1944 to the late James Grier and late Margaret Wilson. He graduated from Lincoln High School, Bessemer City, NC. He was employed by Burlington Textile Mill at an early age. Later he went to Wix/Dana Corporation, where he was employed for over 30 years.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon Grier and two sisters, Jessie and Angie Grier.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

He leaves wonderful memories to his wife of 51 years, Dianne Grier; his three beloved children; a daughter, LaVonda Mason (Maurice) of Gastonia; two sons, Tyron Grier and Michael Grier( Kristal) both of Kings Mtn.; five sisters, Betty Pressley, Mary Grier, Claudia Neuman( Dr. Moses Nueman)  of Kings Mtn., Mable Guyton, Gladys Grier of Gastonia; six brothers, Thomas Grier, Avery Grier of Arizona, George Grier( Sue) of Kings Mtn., Johnny Grier, Ed Grier( Tammy) of Kings Mtn., Henry Lee Grier of Connecticut; six grandchildren; Eli Wilson, Trahus Grier, Donte Washington, Joshua Jackson, Brianna Mason, Deja Mackins; eight adopted grandchildren, two godchildren, a special daughter, Sharon Crank; three special friends, J.C. Charles, Willie Benson and Frazier Woods and a host of other relatives and friends
